Biography

Andrew started his hairdressing career 18 years ago and opened his first salon with great success in 2001. Ambitious and passionate, his true loves lie in education and commercial photographic work.

Known for his progressive cutting and colouring, Andrew also works alongside his art team to create new images, shows, seasonal collections and signature techniques for his company. He develops his own educational seminars and travels around the UK to share his philosophies and ideas, in addition to training regularly at the L'Oréal acadamies in Manchester and London.

The L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy signifies pure fashion and excellence. It highlights the enormous talent, professionalism and energy within the industry.

What are your favourite L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy competition memories?
L'Oréal's presentaton of fashion, the buzz and my salon getting through to the Grand Final in 2005.

What is your criterion for a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy winner?
Have a complete look. Keep it simple and well thought-out. The wow factor must reflect the hottest look and be perfectly finished, as well as photograph well and look good on the catwalk.

What does it mean to win the competition?
Winning is an instant spotlight on your talent throughout the UK and beyond. It's huge!

If you were entering in this year's competition, what advice would you like to be given?
Remember the model, hair and clothes. Create a pared-down mood board. Be completely up to date with your look and keep the cut and colour simple.

What personal / character traits do you think make a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy winner?
Self belief, the discipline to say "that's enough", the dedication to put the time in, the passion to see it through and talent.

How do you think the standards of the competition have changed in recent years?
They have risen enormously as the competition demands more each year.

Anyone with talent and passion for hair can go to the top. It doesn't matter who you are or where you live - it's a level playing field and that's what makes it so exciting. You also learn so much about yourself and your skills thus making you strive to be better!
