Andy has been Art Director for the John Carne Group for the past four years. When first promoted to this position, Andy was very proud to be the youngest Art Director ever appointed to the group. As Art Director his responsibilities cover education, shows, session styling, magazine and television work. In late 2006 Andy also took up the position of Guildford Salon Manager, increasing his responsibilities to include the daily running of the Guildford salon and also management of the salon team.
Andy joined John Carne Hairdressing in October 2000, when he finished his foundation training. Immediately he showed potential talent and early on assisted John Carne on various international and UK shows. During his time with John Carne Hairdressing Andy has regularly represented the John Carne brand, working on seminars and shows all over the world, including Europe, China, Canada and America, for John Carne, L'Oreal, KMS and PACT Haircare.
Over the years Andy has worked with many magazines including Vogue, Marie Claire, Glamour and Cosmopolitan. This has involved makeovers and session styling for campaign shoots. His session styling experience includes London Fashion week, London College of fashion and the famous St Martins College of Fashion Student Shows.
In 2004 Andy was delighted to have the opportunity to get involved with television work, doing makeovers for Channel 4 and a guest appearance on GMTV, both of which he really enjoyed. Also in 2004, Andy won the prestigious L'Oreal Colour Trophy. Then in 2005 he went on to win the Men's Image Award, again for the L'Oreal Colour Trophy. Being part of only the second team ever to have won these awards back-to-back in consecutive years, is an achievement Andy is very proud of.
Andy has been involved with many different training and educational events, for brands such as L'Oreal, Redken and KMS. In 2003/4 he undertook a number of Redken Educational seminars; these events involved him demonstrating new techniques and also leading practical sessions.
Andy was also one of the art directors for KMS, through which he had the opportunity to run large scale shows across many different countries. Andy took centre stage at these high profile events, working live on stage for hour long slots to audiences of 1,000+ people at a time. Andy was able to really make these events his own, co-ordinating the whole show including the models, clothes, make-up and so on.
In 2006/7 Andy worked with L'Oreal on their educational seminars all over the UK. He was delighted to be specifically requested to teach the groups of 22+ stylists, in these show case events. The format of demonstrations and practical sessions was again followed, and Andy received great feedback from both the event organisers and the attendees.
In-salon Andy is very much a key player in the John Carne team. Working across both salons, Andy is involved in all basic and creative training for the staff. He also loves arranging in-house photo shoots, where he again has the opportunity to work with young staff, helping to develop their skills and mentor them.
Although only 27, Andy has achieved a great deal in his career to date, but still has big plans to progress his career further. One of his aspirations for the future is to do more session styling, working on international shoots across the world with big name designers and brands. He is also very keen to continue the training and mentoring side of his career, educating tomorrows up and coming stylists. His passion for being in front of the camera also identifies another area that he wishes to pursue, in the form of further television and magazine work.
