Dazzling Colour

If you want your model to dazzle on the catwalk, beautiful, glossy hair is the best way to outshine the competition. "Good condition is the key to executing an award-winning look and you don't have to use every shade on the chart to make an impact,” explains top colourist Jo Hansford. "Keep it simple and don't overload your style with finishing products. The best colour is amazingly glossy and hair should be able to move and swing as your model struts down the catwalk.”

We've picked the brains of the UK's most-esteemed colourists to hear how they go about creating dazzling colour. Here are their top tips:

"Thorough analysis (consultation) of your models hair texture and condition is very important. This will be the deciding factor in the type of colour or technique that is suitable for your look."Rob Eaton, Russell Eaton Salon

"Making colour highly technical for technical sake doesn't guarantee successful results. Keep it simple, getting the preparation and design perfect before you start. Mixing some unobvious and opposite colours can create some of the most interesting colours that can give that special differentiation to results." Anita Cox, Anita Cox Salon

"Focus on creating a new colour technique and then ensure you choose the right model and hair type to showcase your unique colour. You must push yourself and be brave as the winning image needs to inspire the industry. Start by experimenting on a mannequin head, wigs and hair pieces to allow yourself complete creative freedom." Charles Worthington MBE, Charles Worthington

"Study forthcoming fashion trends - you can check this out on the internet. Look at what fabrics and textures are going to be on trend for the forthcoming season. Create your texture with colour. Go for beautiful, glossy, healthy not overdone techniques and combine with the fashion in clothes that inspired you in the first place."Guy Kremer, Guy Kremer International

"Your colour should make your cut come alive - it should not battle with it, but compliment it to give you a WOW factor.  Be brave with your colours, but remember that ultimately colour should be beautiful as well as creative and so it needs to be wearable". Lisa Shepherd, 2005 British Hairdresser of the Year, 3 times British Colourist of the Year
