Jo Hansford's reputation as the leading authority in hair colour extends far beyond UK shores. As a woman who excels in her craft, she has been an inspiration to other upcoming technicians and is held in the highest regard for her expertise by both the hairdressing industry and consumer press.
Jo opened her specialist colour salon twelve years ago with a staff of just eight - it now boasts a team of over fifty-five highly skilled colour technicians, stylists and assistants. The Jo Hansford Salon has a loyal celebrity clientele that includes Elizabeth Hurley, Angelina Jolie, Charlotte Church, Camilla Parker Bowles, Claire Danes and Katie Holmes. Jo travels extensively with her team participating in seminars and shows world-wide. She also judges several award events including the L'Oréal Colour Trophy in Australia, New Zealand, France and Britain.

It is as significant in the hairdressing world as the Oscar's is in the film industry.

My favourite memories are the 50th Anniversary L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy with Trevor Sorbie's amazing show.
What is your criterion for a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy winner?
I am looking for an overall look and impact - not just hair but make up and clothes too.
What does it mean to win the competition?
It gives you prestige and recognition within the Industry.
If you were entering in this year's competition, what advice would you like to be given?
I would look for inspiration from the catwalks and fashion world, as well as scanning magazines for emerging trends.
What personal / character traits do you think make a L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy winner?
You need focus and determination.
How do you think the standards of the competition have changed in recent years?
The competition improves and evolves every year as the standard becomes higher and it now includes good teamwork.
