Lou Skillen is only 20 years old, but her photographic entry into L'Oréal's Young Colourist Award 2007 has proved to a panel of industry-leading judges that she has more talent, vision and skill in the field of colour than her years may initially suggest.
Representing Rae Palmer, Southsea, Lou submitted a vivid and well-executed entry that convinced the judging panel she was the best candidate to compete in the Live Final in May, where she will represent the Southern Region. Describing the ideas behind her winning look, Lou said "My photographic entry was part of a creative collection that I worked on with Rae and the artistic team earlier in the year. Using midnight moods as our inspiration, we created strong styling with dark purples and reds as our colour direction. I will be looking to present something that is along the same lines at the Live Final.
Lou will now go head-to-head with eight of her peers in her bid to win this coveted title. The next stage of the competition will require Lou to demonstrate her technical expertise and discuss her creative inspiration with the judges... and she is quite clearly already raring to go!
"I'm really chuffed to be going through to the Live Final and think it will be a really exciting day, Lou added delightedly. "Rae gives me lots of motivation and is really supportive of my creative development. I love working with the artistic team at the salon and now I can't wait to get my own work out there.
