At the tender age of 22, colourist Coleen Quinn from SAKS, Dundee has been selected by a legendary panel of judges to represent Scotland in the L'Oréal Colour Trophy's Young Colourist Award. Coleen's photographic entry was deemed to be the best of the bunch by leading industry colourists, and has won her the chance to compete in person at the Live Final in London.
Speaking about her winning image, Coleen explains, "My photographic image was inspired by the stillness of Roman sculpture but the colour technique that I used is all about movement. By placing contrasting slices of coppers, reds and oranges inside the hair cut, it means that when the model moves, flashes of colour beam out.
Coleen will battle it out with eight of her peers in the hope of being crowned Young Colourist 2007 and picking up a sensational series of prizes that will undoubtedly keep her in the limelight for the year to come.
Whatever the result, her colleagues at SAKS, Dundee are behind her 100%. "Coleen is a little whirlwind of passion, says SAKS salon owner Tanya Flynn. "She is expressive and enthusiastic about everything she does and sees her future in hairdressing as a career, not just a job.
