Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is L’Oréal looking for?

This competition is judged by leading members of the industry and not L’Oreal Professionnel. To find out what is being expected for each category please ensure that you read the brief thoroughly in the entry dossier on here on the website. Utilise current high profile catwalk shows and glossy fashion media titles for inspiration for your look. Research the magazines renowned for their trends and build an overall look that incorporates fashion led styling and complements your skillfully executed, beautiful hair colour.

  • Can one salon enter a few different categories in the competition?

Yes, as long as it’s not the same category (i.e. you can’t have two teams in your salon entering the same category). For Men’s Image and L’Oreal Colour Trophy the teams need to be different if entering both categories as the competitions will run simultaneously this year.

  • Can I send in a black and white photograph?

There is nothing in the rules to say that you cannot send in a black and white photo. However this is the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy and the competition is about total look which encompasses both cut and most importantly colour so you should keep this in mind.

  • Can I use extensions for the Mizani Afro Hair category?

Yes, as long as the extensions are coloured using L’Oréal Professionnel Colour AND the extensions make up no more than 20% of the overall hair

  • Do I need a professional model?

This is not necessary. You just need a photogenic model who you believe can best represent your look. Often you can be more creative on a model’s hair when she is not professional. Please remember that if your model should get through to the regional finals they will need to be confident enough to walk down the catwalk in front of a large audience and carry off your look.

  • Should the photo be a head and shoulder shot or can it be full length?

It is up to you. We are looking at the overall image but remember it is ultimately a hair competition so the hair needs to be an important part of the photo.

  • Should the 2 photos be different to show the hair in different angles?

The 2 photos that you send in must be identical.

  • Can I send in a different size of photograph?

Any photos which are not 10x8 cannot be entered into the competition.

  • Can I get my pictures back?

Unfortunately we are unable to return any pictures whether or not you are successful in proceeding through to the Regional Finals.

  • How many people get through to each Regional Final?

35 teams in the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy and 25 teams in L’Oréal Men’s Image Award and 5 in the Young Colourists Award.
