THE L’ORÉAL PROFESSIONNEL COLOUR TROPHY – YOUNG COLOURIST AWARD 2009
Since winning the L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy in 2009, Young Colourist Award winner
Chloe Oakes originally from Jakata in Warrington has been propelled into the world of jetsetting hairdressers and show stopping seminars.
This was the beginning of her amazing journey that has been an on-going mix of non stop shows and fabulous editorial coverage.
So what was it like stepping off the stage and into the spotlight?
Not long after my win at the L’Oréal Professional Colour Trophy final I was invited present a model on stage as part of the prestigious Fellowship of British Hairdressing Colour Team. This felt amazing and it inspired me to work towards the level of the true professionals present on the day.
Tell us one of your ultimate highlights following on from winning your award
My hairdressing idol has always been Trevor Sorbie and I was given the most amazing opportunity to sit
and chat with him which gave me the chance to share my aspirations and hear some great advice that has helped me to map my own career path. To hang-out with such a hair icon was fantastic and will always be a great memory.
Have you had support in your local media?
It was astonishing to see the buzz in my local press following my win. There was a great amount of features and news pieces revolving around my award which seemed to cause a stir and it felt great to be recognised for my achievement.
Are you learning more about the media?
After meeting journalists and talking about my award I also had the chance to hear more about their role and get a better insight into the media and working with press to publicise my projects.
How have all of your friends reacted?
My family and my friends are astonished at my whirlwind success and are so proud and supportive of my career. It was great to share with them each step on my journey so far they are just as amazed as me!
What other experiences have left a lasting effect on you this year?
I met another amazing hairdresser Alan Edwards who I had a great conversation with and learnt more about striving forward beyond the salon and setting goals for myself in my career.
This year I also turned 18 and it was such a great year to have two massive events.
How do you feel you are evolving creatively?
The L’Oréal Professional Colour Trophy gave me great experience of photographic work and translating my ideas into fashion-led imagery. I loved incorporating styling and make-up ideas and I can’t wait to produce more collections in the future.
Did you enjoy telling your clients about the award?
Winning the young colourist award was great to relay back to existing clients and was a fab way to build the trust of new ones.
Have you had the chance to travel?
I travelled to Barcelona on the L’Oréal Professionnel Exposure Tour and it opened up a world of global hairdressing that felt really exciting, it gave me an insight into where my career can take me and I am definitely aiming to do more travelling.
So what’s next for Chloe??
Education is always at the forefront of my goals as I want to continually learn and practice. I have travelled into Manchester and London to complete really interesting courses each driving me to in-corporate new skills and giving me new ideas. I am determined to carry on my success and want to stay focused using all of the advice given to me by the people I have met so far through the win.
