Award Categories

There are 4 uniquely different categories for salons to enter in 2018:

1.L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award

2.L’Oréal Men's Image Award

3.L'Oréal Colour Trophy STAR Award

4.L'Oréal Colour Trophy Afro Award


This year, there are a number of very exciting changes in each category so make sure you familiarise yourself with the competition terms and conditions before starting.  Entrance to the competition is free and your salon does not have to be a L’Oréal Professionnel salon to enter however you must use L’Oréal Professionnel colour and styling products. 

The events prove to be a fantastic platform for hairdressers to showcase their innovative ideas and inspire other hairdressers across the country!

Medium award lct

The Brief

Entrants must create a well-executed, inspirational, modern colour showcasing a female look. This must be complemented by a beautiful style, finish and total look taking inspiration from upcoming trends. Entrants can interpret this as they see fit but the final look must share the same values as L’Oréal Professionnel. These are:

Fashion: Taking inspiration from trends

Innovation: Classic elements, with a brand new twist

Pioneering: A colour that has not been done before and could be a future trend

The work presented must always be exceptionally executed and technically correct.

The hair colour will be the overriding factor in any decision making process.

IMPORTANT CHANGES IN THIS CATEGORY*

No under 16’s are allowed to enter or attend the L’Oréal Colour Trophy events

A salon can enter multiple teams into this category as long as each team has a different colourist and stylist. Also every team entering must create a unique username and password.

At each Regional Semi-Final for Colour Trophy, 6 successful teams will be announced on the night. 2 will be guaranteed to compete at the Grand Final and 4 will go through to the Shortlisted Judging Stage, run after the Semi-Finals.

All salons through to the Shortlisted Judging Stage will be judged collectively online after the Semi-Finals by a panel of judges. The judges will select their top 16 from the 32 in the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Category regardless of region and these 16 salons will compete at the Grand Final.

All model ‘before’ photos must be a side or front view only and not a back view.

The Prize*

An exclusive 3-day European trip for the winning hair stylist & colourist to photograph the winning look.

A one day relevant photo or video shoot opportunity to create a feature in a leading consumer print or digital title in 2019.

Medium award men s image

The Brief

Entrants must create a well-executed, complementary colour showcasing a male look. This must be complemented by a well finished style and total look taking inspiration from upcoming trends. Entrants can interpret this as they see fit but the final look must share the same values as L’Oréal Professionnel. These are:

Fashion: Taking inspiration from trends.

Innovation: Classic elements, with a brand new twist

Pioneering: A colour that has not been done before and could be a future trend

The work presented must always be exceptionally executed and technically correct.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE FOR THIS CATEGORY*

The Colourist in the team must be between 16 and 25 years on the closing day of entry Monday 26 February 2018.

A salon can only enter 1 team into this category.

All STAR Finalists must bring a mood-board to their respective Semi-Final to best explain their inspiration behind their look.

An overall winner will be announced at each Regional Semi-Final and these 8 winners from 8 regions will become part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Academy 2018/2019.

All model ‘before’ photos must be a side or front view only and not a back view.

The Prize*

Each L’Oréal Colour Trophy Star Award winner from each of the 8 regions will become part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Academy 2018/2019, which is a one year development programme where the winners will be inspired and educated by colourists from the UK. They will be mentored through a bespoke development programme to gain a deeper technical understanding of colour while being given ideas and techniques to build their creativity.

This must be complemented by a beautiful style, finish and total look taking inspiration from upcoming trends. Entrants can interpret this as they see fit but the final look must share the same values as L’Oréal Professionnel. These are:

Fashion: Taking inspiration from trends

Innovation: Classic elements, with a brand new twist

Pioneering: A colour that has not been done before and could be a future trend

The work presented must always be exceptionally executed and technically correct.

The hair colour will be the overriding factor in any decision making process.
