No, for 2019 we will not be accepting any postal entries. All entries need to be submitted online.

This is up to you. We can accept a head or full length shot, but remember, this is a hair competition so the hair needs to be an important factor in the photograph that you submit.

Entry requirements are very strict so for all photos submitted, they must be in colour and be in a .jpeg or .tiff; format with an aspect ratio of 1:1.41 and a minimum resolution of 1080 pixels in height.

No, this is not necessary. You just need a photogenic model who you believe can best represent your look according to the 2018 brief. Often you can be more creative on a model’s hair when they are not professional. Please remember that if your salon makes it through to the Regional Semi-Final stage, your model should be confident, ‘own’ the look you have created on them and walk convincingly down the catwalk in front of the assembled audience.

Please refer to each award brief found in the terms and conditions.

Yes, you can across all categories, as long as the extensions are coloured using L’Oréal Professionnel colour and the extensions make up no more than 20% of the overall hair.

With the exception of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Star Award, a salon may now enter multiple teams into the remaining 3 categories (L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award, L’Oréal Men’s Image Award and L’Oréal Colour Trophy Afro Award). However, each team entering MUST have a different colourist and stylist. An individudal can only enter the competition once.

The photographic entry judging will take place on Monday 4th March 2019. The salons successfully through to the next stage of the competition will be announced online on Wednesday 6th March 2019.

  • A maximum of 35 teams for the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award
  • A maximum of 25 teams for the L’Oréal Men’s Image Award

No, it can be a different model. However, should you get through to the Grand Final you must use the same model as you used at the Regional Semi-Final.

For the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award, a total of 6 teams will be selected at each Regional Semi-Final, 2 of which will go through to represent that region at the Grand Final and 4 of which will be shortlisted for the Shortlisted Judging Stage to potentially go through to represent that region at the Grand Final. After the Regional Semi-Finals are completed, all shortlisted teams from all regions will be judged on their model’s photograph collectively and the judges will then select their top 16 to go through to the Grand Final regardless of the region they are from.

For Men’s Image, a total of 3 teams will be selected at each Regional Semi-Final, 1 of which will go through to the Grand Final to represent that region and 2 of which will be shortlisted for the Shortlisted Judging Stage to potentially go through to represent that region at the Grand Final. After the Regional Semi-Finals are completed, all shortlisted teams from all regions will be judged on their model’s photograph collectively and the judges will then select their top 8 to go through to the Grand Final regardless of the region they are from.

This is a category exclusively for colourists who are between the ages of 16-25 on the entry closing date Monday 18th February 2019. Please refer to The Awards and Terms and Conditions sections for further information.

  • A maximum of 5 Finalists per region will be chosen from the Photographic Entry stage. These finalists will compete at the Regional Semi-Finals in their region which will take place in a key city during the month of March and April 2019.
  • Each Star Finalist will need to bring a mood-board with them reflecting their inspiration behind their look as well as a model with the colour already pre-done on the hair. Each Star Finalist will be interviewed by the judges who will inspect the colour work on the live model and interview them about their aspirations as colourists.
  • Each Star Finalist will then compete in the live 30-minute competition to finish the style on the model’s hair. They may bring a stylist from the salon with them to do the styling if they wish although this is not mandatory. Their models will be catwalked along with all the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Award and Men’s Image Award models and judged finally by the judges.
  • An overall L’Oréal Colour Trophy Star Award Winner will be announced on stage each night and these 8 overall winners (from the 8 regions) will become part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Academy 2019/2020.

Each L’Oréal Colour Trophy Star Award winner from each region will become part of the L’Oréal Professionnel Colour Academy 2019/2020. These 8 winners will compete at the Grand Final on Monday 3rd June 2019 and will have to recreate their winning look on the same model from the Regional Semi-Final in order for the judges to choose the overall “Judge’s Favourite”.
